On my way to Paris, for the best and largest fine fabric exhibition in the world.
I have been meaning to go for years, but circumstances have always prevented me from actually making the trip. With family in Europe and our high season nearing in September, the time to go overseas has always been NZ’s off season – June/July.
The fabric exhibition is the ideal place to make contacts and find new suppliers. But already years ago I spoke to the fine silk and lace mill in France where we import most of our material from. Nicolas, the owner, was astounded when I asked him to catch up at the exhibition – he insist their mill produces many of the fine fabrics (often to order for different agents and brands) on show, so his company stays well clear. Oscar De La Renta, Sophie Hallette and Vera Wang are only some of the big names our mill supplies.
So we are covered for fine laces and silk as we have easy access to new products and looks from the source. What I am looking for is detailing, embroidery and beading. Maybe a few really unusual items will strike my fancy, but apart from a great time enriched by an overflow of the best and the newest fashion I am looking for nothing but inspiration. Fashion stands for beauty & individuality and a week of indulging in the heart of it all will no doubt feed my passion for beautiful wedding dresses.
