Finally I feel settled enough in the new place to get moving on our long announced ready-to-wear bridal collection. Here is the story of the first dress!
Pinning various versions on the mannequin, I love this lace placement on the body, as well as the asymmetric pattern on the upper front. The light and romantic feeling the lace gives calls for a tulle skirt and fitted slip.
I had the tulle lace custom made in France and the design has been embroidered just as ordered. It feels great to know it’s completely exclusive to us.
In all these years surrounded by a skilled team I only occasionally had the chance to draft a pattern. Actually I have always felt pattern making was one of my strengths and I really enjoy the nitty gritty technical stuff that comes with developing a great pattern from scratch.
Ready-to-wear is very different from couture and every inch of the fabric has to be planned out. Fabric usage, pricing, construction, all relies on the cut being clearly specified for a range of sizes.
Finished! I’ve created the inside of the wedding dress from a soft silk satin in a subtle ivory with fine lining. The gown is light as a feather and feels sexy & cool. Ideal for a summer wedding!
My daughter tries it on for me – it’s always good to see a new wedding dress design on an actual person, seeing it move on the body and getting feedback about its ‘feel’.
Now the gown is packed up, heading straight for a bridal shop in Melbourne. I have promised a very persistent and patient bridal boutique owner beautiful dresses for a while and will send my samples straight to Australia.
We will be re-opening the studio officially on September 12th. The first samples of our new ready-to-wear collection dresses will be here, for you to try on and order. This gown featured will retail for $2900 in sizes 8 to 16.
The remaining samples from the prior collection will also be on sale.
See you then!
